My 30 day challenge results

My thirty day challenge went pretty well for the first couple of weeks, near the end of the challenge I got a little bit lazy and only read the required amount pages every two or three days, sometimes I even skipped reading for the day! Luckily I caught up on the days I missed reading. By the beginning of the strike I began reading the last book of the series twice! After accomplishing my goal I actually remember more parts of the story than when I skimmed it over. Next time I borrow a book from the library, I will probably take a few weeks to read it instead of a day.

What We Did

Today we handed in our diary entries or finished them up during most of the class. If you were done, you would be put in a group that had random roles in the middle ages in them. The hardest part was trying to figure out the role playing. I mean, how can a page, monk, and minstrel meet up at the same place? The play had to be 5-10 minutes long and everyone has to talk.

Why We Did It

We made the diary entries so we can get a basic understanding on researching and writing. This also helps us become better writers. We were put into groups so that we can work on our group skills and oral skills.

COMMENTS/REFLECTIONS/CONNECTIONS

Many people had incomplete diaries so we had to finish some of it in class. The group part was really hard to do because some roles didn't interact with each other. Instead they would be the complete opposite or exactly the same.

So far my thrity day challenge has been going quite successful. I have excercised everyday for at least an hour. Sometimes I go over a little bit, but it's still OK. My progress is going great but the people who haved helped me achieve this goal would be my parents. They make me go to all my sports and practices even if I don't want to. If I had to change my goal in any way, I would extend my excercise to an hour and a half everyday.

My progress is going good. My feeling of it is good because I know that I can achieve something if I really want to. I don't really now how the progress of my peers are going but I will check Mon.

My 30 day challenge update

So far my thirty day challenge has been going well. I gained a very strong interest in the series, Deltora Quest, and have been reading at least twenty pages everyday. Unfortunately I read at least twenty pages, so often I read ahead of what I am supposed to read. So to make sure I don't do that I wouldn't read ahead (which a did a few times) I made sure I read over what I was supposed to read at that scheduled day. That way I wouldn't tempt myself from reading too far ahead and finishing the series before the 31 days are over. Currently I am reading book four of the series "Shifting Sands."

My progress I going well so far, but if I could improve by not tempting myself to read ahead. My peers, though I haven't checked on my peers progress yet.
Jessica, are you doing practicing piano and flute an hour each every day?
Chase, are you at eating healthy, and exercising?
June, did you pack your lunch?
Justin, did you run on the treadmill yet?

Ms.Lees did you eat chips?

What we Did

Instead of going to class in the portables like we normally do, we were supposed to meet in the library. Unless you were not in Friday's class, haven't read the learning blogs, or just simply forgot, you would know to go there instead of the portables.

We are doing a project were we have to study a role of a kind of person in the Middle Ages. You could study from being a knight, to a servant, to a priest. To make things more interesting we decided what role we would study by drawing it out of a hat.

Before we did the research about the role we chose, everyone got moved to according what role we chose. Servants would sit in the table with other servants, and merchants would sit in the same table as other merchants.

Then Ms. Lees described using the aid of the smart board to described how to do the bibliography, for the research. We are required to have at least 3 sources. At least one of the sources has to be a book. The requirements for a bibliography varies by the source. To learn more about how to make a bibliography go to the fire hawks library website.

That is only the requirements for the bibliography. For the actual research, you could either take notes in the web format, or outline.

For those who don't know what a web format is, it is when you have to main idea in the center and you have smaller ideas branch out of the main idea. Outlining is when you have the main idea on the top, and you smaller ideas are below it. You make indents to indicate how big or small the information is.

Below is the approximate outline.

For the rest of the block, we spent the time researching the given roles.

Why we did it

We met in the library because it is very hard to do research in the classroom without computers, or books. Bringing the books to the class would be to troublesome.

Mrs. Lees made us sit in groups of our role's chosen class because that way we can share some information. So the merchants can share the books about their class. We learn how to write a bibliography because it it good to know were information came from, especially if it is not your own.

The reason we only did the web formatting, and paragraph formation for our notes is because we learned them already, and Ms.Lees wants to see how much we progresses in our note making ability. It is also good practice because practice makes perfect!

Connections and Reflections

I found that being seated into the class groups was very helpful because it is easier to find were the books about nobles are instead of searching around the class.

It is good to know the structure of a bibliography because most people will do it wrong. Writing a bibliography is a good skill to learn because in the future you won't have to pay someone to write it for you.

Homework

Chapter 10 questions due on Tuesday
Do some research!

Tips

If you don't have 10- 12 posts then post! Duplicates are allowed!
What we did:

Today in humanities we went to the library to work on our project. Our project is to pick a role from the medieval times and we will get info about that person then write a daily life paragraph of what that person does. Then when we are done we will do a skit.

Why we did this:

We started the project so we could learn more about the people of the medieval times because its important to learn what they do in thier life.

Connecttions and reflections:

This project will help us in the future because we are taking notes which will help us in future because its good to be able to take good notes. When we act out our parts it will help because we wont be as shy when we do other speaking projects through the year.

Homework:

no homework but you could work on your notes

tips:

work a little on your notes so you are a little ahead.
What We Did

Today the class went to the library to pick our bibliography roles and research them for a while. We had to use at least 3 sources and 1 book. If we used the internet, we would have to put down the exact web address and date. If you used the book, you would have to put down the tittle, publishing city, publishing company, author, and editter. After you got your role, we would have to write down 4-6 topics and research about them. It was very hard to find some information because some of the roles were uncommon or hardly needed.

Why We Did It

We went to the library to research because it was one of the only places in the school that had computers and books. We were given a role because if we didn't, everyone would pick the same thing. The reason why we had to research everything was so we know the information to put on our bibliographies.

COMMENTS/ REFLECTIONS/ CONNECTIONS

The information for my job was not easy to find. Whenever you typed up hangmen a movie would pop up. Some sites had so many ads that you couldn't tell where the information was.
