What we did: Some of us played catch up on our paragraphs that we didn't finish. We had to do narrative, descriptive and explanatory paragraph.
We also did the package that Ms. Lees gave us. We have to finish the Questions and Answers part of it. It's where we read the story that is written in the package and there were questions for that story. With those questions, we had to find our if it was a RT question (Right There) question, and T&S question (Think and Search), etc. Than we had to answer the questions on the next page. The place where we had to put the answers is in a square divided into four parts. Those parts are divided into the "type of questions" categorie so you put the answers of the questions where you think it belongs into.
Why we did it (Learning Intentions): We did the paragraphs so that we can catch up on all our pargraphs that was suppose to be due on the day it was suppose to be due. Those paragraphs are for us to learn different types of paragraphs that we can use.
We did the Questions and Answers package because it is to help us learn what type of questions each type of questions are. It would help you know what type of question you should use when you try to ask a question.
Connection: For the paragraphs, when you have an exam to write of a particularly subject or you're doing a speech, you would know what type of paragraphs to use.
For the Answers and Questions package, It may inspire you to know what kind of question you are asking. questions are always an important part in life that is why this homeworok is good thing for your future.
Homework: You have to finish your note package.
You have to finish your Questions and Answers package. pg 191, 192, 193, 194 and 195.
Tips: Practice for Canspell and the geography test on friday.
Finish your homework ;)
Upcoming events: I guess it's June's turn on Thursday and Chase is Friday.

What we did today
At the beginning of class Ms Lees did a homework check for the explanatory paragraph outline, and for the explanatory paragraphs.
Today Ms. Lees reminded the class that everyone should be finished their portfolio now since we were given a lot of time already. It is especially important that people should be done their portfolio since Mrs. Lees is beginning to start portfolio conferences with some students. Though since the class was noisy for most of the period, only a few people got through their conferences.
Before Ms Lees began conferencing we went over the class the main points of a persuasive paragraph.
- A persuasive paragraph has to have a point
- The paragraph will always try to persuade or convince the reader to think a certain way.
- A good persuasive paragraph will always have supporting reasons to back up their point.
While Ms Lees was conferencing some of the students, we worked on highlighting the traits and words used in a persuasive paragraph in the example.
We also were supposed to do exercise one on the persuasive paragraph section. (We choose one of the following sentences, and make a persuasive paragraph out of it. If you don't like the topics choose a topic from your heart map. You do not have to do a paragraph outline for this exercise.)
We were also required to do exercise two for persuasive paragraphs as well. In this exercise you have to a paragraph outline before you start writing your paragraph. Again you can choose one of the following topics or choose a topic from you heart map.
A basic paragraph outline should look like this.
Topic sentence (Beginning, should state main point)
Point one : example one, example two
Point two: example one, example two
Concluding sentence (Ending should wrap up paragraph and state main point)
Ms. Lees also gave us a small booklet on Note making methods. There are two ways of note making methods, the first method is the outlining method. You basically write down the main idea, the important details, and maybe the conclusion. In other words it should look like your paragraph outline. The second method is mapping. It is a web where the topic is in the middle and all the points and details all connect to the main topic. Since they are notes you should really only take the important details.
If you managed to finish the persuasive paragraph exercises, you had to practice the two note making methods by reading the paragraph on the booklet and using the methods to take notes.
For the last few minutes in class Ms. Lees handed out a Can spell rule sheet, that show most of the rules in the spelling bee. Then we practiced a little bit for the spelling bee, but only one person actually stood up and spelled out the word.
Why we did it
Ms Lees came around to see if we were finished the explanatory paragraphs and outline so she can get a view over our work habits, and see if we actually did the homework.
Ms Lees reminded us about the portfolios because she expected us to have completed them already, so she can begin conferencing us. We did the conferencing so we can actually discuss why we should get this grade instead of her giving us a grade without knowing why. That way the student can get a say on what they think they deserve.
We went over persuasive paragraphs with the class so that everyone knows where the class should be at, as well as knowing the criteria for a persuasive paragraph.
We also were required to highlight parts of the example persuasive paragraph in the booklet. We were supposed to highlight the topic sentence, the concluding sentence, and what we think are types of phrases you will see in a persuasive paragraph. We did this so that in the future when we look it over we can obviously know that these are the important parts of a persuasive paragraph. We did the two exercises for the persuasive paragraph because it is good practice on writing persuasive paragraphs. The reason we had to go over methods for note making is that in the future when we are taking notes, we won't have to write every single word the teachers says. That way we would know what are the main ideas, and that way we can actually learn. We received the handout for the can spell about the rules because when we do the spelling bee, which is in two weeks, we will do it properly without breaking any rules, and not get disqualified.
Connections and Reflections
The preparation for the portfolio conferences was a lot of work, but in my opinion it is mandatory because as a student we should be able to know and have a word in what grade we deserve.
The ability to write a good persuasive paragraph, is very useful because when you want to convince someone that you are right or why you should get elected for president then you can because you are persuading them that what you think is right. A persuasive paragraph is like a debate because you always want to convince someone. In university or grades where you have to write down what the teacher is saying for like the whole class, you will have to be able to write quick and efficient notes, otherwise you will get sloppy notes, and probably fail since your notes don' t make sense. Going over the rules for the can spell spelling bee, and practicing for it is important because that way you will have some kind of experience for when the actual spelling bee happens. In a sense it is like practicing for an event like a relay race or a quiz show.

Blog orders
There seems to be some confusion in the posting order. The order should be something like this.
Monday- Jessica
Tuesday- Michelle
Thursday- June
Friday- Chase
Monday- Justin B
Since there is no Humanities on Wednesdays each person will not have their own official day. The days someone will post will shift every week. If you have a problem with a certain day with a good reason then post at least 3 days earlier so we can make arrangements.

What We Did
Today in humanities people were finishing up there homework (Narrative paragraph, Descriptive paragraph, and we got assigned a Explanatory paragraph.) We also did, (along with our paragraphs) a outline of our paragraphs (We had to put a topic sentences three points about our paragraphs and a concluding sentence that resembles to our topic sentence.)Some people who didn't finish were parred up with the kids who did finish. It was a catch up block.
Why We Did It
The reason why we did get buddies is so the whole entire class would be caught up in all of there work (Narrative paragraph, Descriptive paragraph.) The reason why were doing these paragraphs is to improve our paragraph skills.
Homework
Explanatory paragraph, For the explanatory paragraph it didn't have to be serious it could be a bit funny or comical (Ideas will be on your booklet on the Explanatory paragraph page except it will read expository just ignore that, or you can get ideas from your heart map PLUS YOUR BRAIN!) It should be like a how to guide like " How To Behave On A Date." or something like that.
The next blog thingy will be done by Michelle H. on Monday

What we did
Today Ms. Lees went over the expectations for blog posting. When posting on a blog use formal and not language used for texting or facebook.
Be sure to comment other member's post, giving suggestions, and helpful reminders for the poster.
We also went over how to post, and what to do if there is technical difficulties. If you do face some technical difficulties be sure to still do the post on paper or email Ms. Lees.
After going over the blog expectations we then got into our previous blog groups and discussed the order and days for blog posting.
Ms. Lees handed out a geography landform questions sheet, for the South America Landform map (pg 70 in the geography unit).
The rest of the class time was given to work on the landform question sheet and the map.
Why we did it
The purpose of going over blogs is knowing how a blog works in general.
Writing in a blog will make you conscious about what you write, because anyone can view it.
It can also give experience in formal writing, since you will not be using texting language.
The landform map questions are instructions on what to do on the landform map. They are in the form of a question, so that you would think about the answer. That way you would put more thought into the map.
The reason for doing the landform map is to recognize types of landforms, and to learn to follow instructions.
Reflections & Connections
I found that going over how to do the blog was useful because those without a lot of experience will generally know how to work a blog. In the future knowing how to make a blog will be useful for businesses, or sharing of general news, and information. The experience from writing in formal language will also assist in in writing essays.
It is important to follow instructions because in order to do something right you have to follow instructions carefully and diligently. If you are a baker, then you have to do the steps in order, otherwise you will end up with a uneatable cake.
