I just looked at how many posts each person did and this was it.
Michelle: 6 posts
Jessica: 5 posts
Chase: 5 posts
Justin: 5 posts
June: 4 posts
It turns out that we didn't need to post this week unless someone needs to catch up on posting. That means June will post today or tommorow.

What we did
Block 1: Today was our last day to work on the history webs. After that each one of the members in the group filled out an self evaluation rubric, and a group rubric based on our work habits based on our contribution to the project scoring from one to four, with four being the highest. We also did our reflections and opinions on the project, and a pie chart on how much each person contributed to the project. We stapled our notes on the back of the sheet. All the sheets mentioned were handed in.
Block 2: We watched the video on Ms Lees' blog (http://leeshum8.blogspot.com/). Afterward we took notes, and discussed the types of skills the people in the video had like teamwork, good communication, planning, etc...
Why we did it: We did the rubrics, and pie chart to see how much effort we put into the project . That way everyone will get the mark they deserve. We watched the video and took notes about it because we need to know the importance of oral communication, and being organized. This probably will be in Ms Lees expectations when we are doing future assignments.
Connections and Reflections: The project rubrics, and the pie chart was pretty self explanatory. I found both of them useful because now I have an insight on the things I am strong and weak at. The video was related to what we are doing in class because both require collaboration skill, and teamwork. The video was a very clear example on what we do in humanities can actually apply in real life.
Homework: Complete the rest of the steps on what to do after breaking into separate teams. (watch video for hints, and answers)
Justin is posting for Monday.

Jessica.Y's blog
What we did: We continued with our webbings, but this time, we started on our good copy. While we do the webbing, we're suppose to be discussing and listening and telling eachother's ideas.
Why we did it: We did this to help us have a better communication in our groups and if you are quiet or talkative, it would help us to tell our ideas without hesitation or listening more than to talk. We also did this to make our own proper web. We learned about what can be a good web and what has some stuff to work on.
Connection, Reflection: This would help us with any other group activities that may be happening in the future. You would know when to talk and when to listen.
Homework: We didn't have any homework but the webbing should be finished by the end of the block tomorrow.
Upcoming Events: Finals coming up. 2nd semester coming up too!

What we did
Today in humanities we got in and sat in our book groups and continued to work on our web. We gathered our information from last class and continued that then put it on a layout of were well put our subjects and space it out to make it look less confusing.
Why We Did It
We worked on our webs to get us in groups and discuss in a group and to get caught up in our web. We also did it so we will be better organizers
Homework
To get our course selection forms signed if not already signed
That is all

WHAT WE DID
WHAT WE DID
At first we got a grade 9 course outline and a Councillor ( I forgot her name) went over it with us. She talked about how many courses there were, which were mandatory, and which were optional. She also explained a little bit about the new courses such as Spanish and metal art. Later we proof-read each other's paragraph. We used terms like AWK and FRAG to help correct our mistakes. Then we used a rubric to rate the paragraph out of 4. This work was all due on Friday.
WHY WE DID IT
We were explained what to do for the course selection sheet so we know what to do. In addition to that, we were explained so we fill the sheet out properly. Furthermore, we rated and proof-read each other's paragraph's so we know what we did wrong and why we did it. Another reason is so we can add more details for our good copies. In the future, we will need these for our next port folios. We proof-read this with a partner so they can spot the errors in your writing that you missed while double checking.
REFLECTION/COMMENTS
The course selection sheet took at least an hour to explain which used up most of our class time. The proof reading with a partner was a very good idea because not only does it let us practice our oral skills, but our cooperation skills as well. It sometimes was a distraction working with a friend because we can sometimes get carried away. I would suggest to partner us up next time other than choosing our own partners.
HOMEWORK
Finish the novel for those of you who have not. Finish proof reading each other's paragraph. Paragraph good copies are due on Monday.

What we did:
Im posting for tuesday because nobody posted on tuesday.
Today in humanities we had the geography challenge. The geography challenge is a test(doesn't count for marks) that tests our background knowledge about geography. We did 5 or 6 rounds, I cant remember how many we actually did, but the rounds were about Canada, Oceans, Europe and some other places.
Why we did it:
We did the geography challenge to test our background knowledge of the world and lets us use our knowledge we know all ready for this test.. The test ranges from grade 8 to 10 and has all different sorts of questions such as food questions and some ocean and places.
Connections and reflections:
This test helps us with our future because if I ever travel somewhere I could find the best destinations and good tourist spots. It also will help in future geography challenges and socials.
Homework:
There is no homework except read your novel.

Monday January 9 2012
Sorry for posting this late. I wasn't really sure who was supposed to post on Monday. This is Monday's post if you are wondering.
What we did
On Monday Ms.Lees mentioned that some blogs are missing posts. That means that not everyone is posting when they should be.
Then Ms.Lees handed out 2 criteria sheets.
The first criteria sheet involved with the group and collaberation skills. The criteria involved whether the group was on task, whether we can complete the job in the given time, etc. The groups were chosen based on the novel we were reading. So all people reading "The Samurai's Tale" will be put in a group.
The second criteria sheet was about the actual project, which is making a web on the history based on the info on the novel. The criteria was broken into two sections "content, knowledge and understanding", and "design elements, used to enhance meaning". The things that meet the content section are multiple sources of information, detailed, the details support the heading. Things that meet the "design elements" section are good use of space, clear legible writing, and visuals that are relevant and help to understand about the topic
Then we were given two more sheets. The first sheet was a editing checklist, where they use this acroymn below to show what we should be looking for when editing.
Sentence structure
Word choice
Ending
Attention grabbers
Thoughs
Sequence
On the other side of the sheet was a list of transistor words like "then" and "afterward".
The second sheet was another checklist that can be used for editing paragraphs, essays, and any kind of writing. The checklist was divided into planning, drafting, editing, proof-reading, publishing, evaluating, and showing to an audience.
After that the class practiced the geography challenge by doing a few rounds. Each round consisted of ten questions, and often involved naming a place where something is located.
Why we did it
The whole purpose of the four handouts was to go over the expectations, of the upcoming project that is coming up, as well as the collaberations skills.
Practing for the geography challenge helped us gain general awareness about what happens around the world. Also this will give us a general idea on what the actual challenge will be like.
Connections and Reflections
I found that the four handouts were very easy to understand in terms of clarity. For other classes following a criteria will help you know what is expected. An example is a science project on trees. You won't do a project about paper because it was not in the criteria. Another example is doing a job. Your boss expects you to do a job in a certain way, and if you don't do it right you will not meet the expectations. That means you will get fired.
The mock geography challenge is extremely difficult even though it isn't the real challenge. It doesn't seem possible to study since reading all the world's history and memorizing every city in the world isn't something I can pull off in a night. The geography challenge reminds me of the Canspell competitions since they are both used to promote spelling or in this case geography.
Homework
Finish reading the novel
Practice for the geography challange, or at least try

Hum 8 Friday Jan 6, 2012
I am so sorry for posting this so late. This is Friday's blog just to tell you.
What we did: We went to the library to finished up critiquing our blogs. We spent about 30 to 40 minutes on that. In the rest of the period, we got into our reading group and Ms.Lees handed out three webs done by other people, three green cue cards and three blue cue cards. On the green cue cards, we had to discuss and write about what was a positive thing about the webs that were in front of us, and with the blue cue cards, we had to discuss and write what was something the web should improve on.
Why we did it: Critiquing: We critiqued so that we would know our mistakes and learn from it. We also did it to have a good group communication.
Webs: We did the webs because we have to learn what sort of stuff would be a good web and what wouldn't be. It helps us to also learn form other people's mistakes too. We did the web also to have a good communication with our group members and get inspired from other people's ideas and to learn how to work as a group.
Connections/Reflections: Critiquing: It can be to do a good communication if you are in any other group stuff. And if you had someone else's work in the future, this can help you think more thoroughly. Finally, this can help you to listen more often and get inspired by other people's ideas instead of not agreeing and only thinking about your own ideas, in the future.
The web has the same idea as the Critiquing. It would help you to listen better and get inspired by other people's ideas in the future. This can actually help you to be a better friend to people in the future because a friend needs someone to listen to, not someone who talks all the time and never listens.
Homework: There is no homework but you have (or had) to finish your model by Monday.
I am really sorry for posting this right now.

My learning Log
WHAT WE DID
Yesterday we went down to the library so we can rate and critique each other's blogs. We did this by getting into groups and filling out a sheet that had the required information we had to use for the rating. Later, we went back to class to work on some practice geography challenge round. There wasn't much we did other than that.
WHY WE DID IT
We critiqued and rated each other's blogs so we can know what we did wrong and how to better ourselves by knowing our mistakes. At the same time we practiced our oral skills and group skills.
COMMENTS/CONNECTIONS/REFLECTIONS
Most of us were off task when we were in the library. I in fact was one of the worst. Some of us did get most of it done but very few finished. The geography challenge was really fun and difficult. This reminds me of the geography test all over again. Of course the practice rounds weren't easy but still inspiring.
HOMEWORK
There was no homework other than reading your novel which was assigned to you.
New account
The blog keeps kicking me out and putting me back in so I'm going to make a new account. I tried this on a new computer as well but the same problem occurred.

Today in humanities, we got back our portfolio's, and ms Lee's told us to make sure we have all of our stuff in it. Then Ms Lees's gave us a sheet and we had to grade our work that is in our portfolio's, starting at September to December. Then for January we put our goal.
Purpose:
The purpose of this activity was to check and make sure we had all of our work inside our portfolio's and to see where our letter grade is based on our work.
Homework
Finish reading the novel because its due by monday
