Sorry for posting this late. I wasn't really sure who was supposed to post on Monday. This is Monday's post if you are wondering.
What we did
On Monday Ms.Lees mentioned that some blogs are missing posts. That means that not everyone is posting when they should be.
Then Ms.Lees handed out 2 criteria sheets.
The first criteria sheet involved with the group and collaberation skills. The criteria involved whether the group was on task, whether we can complete the job in the given time, etc. The groups were chosen based on the novel we were reading. So all people reading "The Samurai's Tale" will be put in a group.
The second criteria sheet was about the actual project, which is making a web on the history based on the info on the novel. The criteria was broken into two sections "content, knowledge and understanding", and "design elements, used to enhance meaning". The things that meet the content section are multiple sources of information, detailed, the details support the heading. Things that meet the "design elements" section are good use of space, clear legible writing, and visuals that are relevant and help to understand about the topic
Then we were given two more sheets. The first sheet was a editing checklist, where they use this acroymn below to show what we should be looking for when editing.
Sentence structure
Word choice
Ending
Attention grabbers
Thoughs
Sequence
On the other side of the sheet was a list of transistor words like "then" and "afterward".
The second sheet was another checklist that can be used for editing paragraphs, essays, and any kind of writing. The checklist was divided into planning, drafting, editing, proof-reading, publishing, evaluating, and showing to an audience.
After that the class practiced the geography challenge by doing a few rounds. Each round consisted of ten questions, and often involved naming a place where something is located.
Why we did it
The whole purpose of the four handouts was to go over the expectations, of the upcoming project that is coming up, as well as the collaberations skills.
Practing for the geography challenge helped us gain general awareness about what happens around the world. Also this will give us a general idea on what the actual challenge will be like.
Connections and Reflections
I found that the four handouts were very easy to understand in terms of clarity. For other classes following a criteria will help you know what is expected. An example is a science project on trees. You won't do a project about paper because it was not in the criteria. Another example is doing a job. Your boss expects you to do a job in a certain way, and if you don't do it right you will not meet the expectations. That means you will get fired.
The mock geography challenge is extremely difficult even though it isn't the real challenge. It doesn't seem possible to study since reading all the world's history and memorizing every city in the world isn't something I can pull off in a night. The geography challenge reminds me of the Canspell competitions since they are both used to promote spelling or in this case geography.
Homework
Finish reading the novel
Practice for the geography challange, or at least try
