WHAT WE DID
On the first block of Humanities, we worked on our oral communication and conversation skills. We did this by going into groups of 3-4 to add and discuss to our There Will Be Wolves chapter 1 and 2 questions. To prevent us from adding on to everyone's answer, we each got 3 poker chips. Whenever we wanted to add on to someone's answer, we would have to use 1 poker chip. In the end, it was mandatory that we had to use all our chips. There were some problems with this such as wasting too much time on 1 question, arguing over who's right and who's wrong, spending our chips too fast, and going off topic. Other than these, it went really well. In fact, we did this so well that Ms. Lees gave us a whole block to work on our chapter questions for There Will Be Wolves chapters 3 and 4.

WHY WE DID IT

We discussed our answers to practice working in groups and to help us become better at working in groups. We got poker chips so it prevents us from talking forever. The reason we did all this is so we can do the same thing with further chapters in the book. The reason we worked on our chapter questions early is so we can have less homework and so we can finish our work for tomorrow.

REFLECTIONS/COMMENTS/CONNECTIONS

The group i worked in were off topic every question we talked about. It started off with a lot of arguing, then we got into "other topics". We even wasted all our chips on one question arguing so much. When we were working on our chapter 3 and 4 questions, most of us weren't even doing the questions. Instead we were tapping our pencils, talking about non task related stuff, hitting each other with badminton rackets, and other disturbing things. In my opinion, it should have been silent work time.

  1. Good job with the reflections. You explained the process of how the poker chips were used and related to the disscusion. How would you apply skill from the poker chips outside humanities?
